sahih

The narrator Anas added that the Prophet (ﷺ) raised his hands (during the invocation) to such an extent that the whiteness of his armpits was visible.

The Prophet ﷺ would fervently supplicate and confide frequently to his Lord and he ﷺ taught his nation that persistently invoking Allah, Exalted be He, for all of their affairs, is one of the keys to salvation. In this brief hadeeth, the honourable Companion Anas ibn Maalik(may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet ﷺ raised his hands in supplication to Allah, Exalted be He, during his supplication for rainfall, like what [has been reported] in a narration in al-Bukhaaree: “A Bedouin man from among the people of the desert came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a Friday and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! The livestock, families, and people have perished.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands and invoked Allah, and the people with him rose their hands [as well] and called upon Allah.” The Prophet ﷺ would exert himself in his supplication by raising his hands and invoking Allah, the Most High, to the point that the whiteness of his armpits appeared; this is due to the intensity of his exertion in calling upon Allah, Exalted be He, with humility and fervent pleasure. That is because imploring and beseeching Allah in fervent supplication are some of the greatest ways in which we can ward off calamity and remove harm. From the other benefits that we can conclude from this hadeeth is to take note on the permissibility of supplication and raising one’s hands when invoking Allah for rainfall. It teaches us that imploring Allah, the Most High, turning to Him, and acknowledging one’s need of Him are the keys to His bounties and offerings, and answering our supplications. .
