Hadith text · Matn

‏ إِذَا وُضِعَ الْعَشَاءُ وَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاَةُ، فَابْدَءُوا بِالْعَشَاءِ ‏

‏ ‏.‏

English translation

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“If food is served and the Iqamah for prayer is given, then start with the food.”

‏ إِذَا وُضِعَ الْعَشَاءُ وَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَابْدَءُوا بِالْعَشَاءِ ‏

‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَتَعَشَّى ابْنُ عُمَرَ لَيْلَةً وَهُوَ يَسْمَعُ الإِقَامَةَ ‏.‏

English translation

It was narrated from Nafi’ that Ibn ‘Umar said:

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘If food is served and the Iqamah for prayer is given, then start with the food.” He said: "Ibn 'Umar ate dinner one night while he could hear the Iqamah."

English translation

It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“If food is ready and the Iqamah is being given, then start with the food.”
